Balancing your life

“Focus on being balanced- success is balance.

Laila Ali

  • A well-balanced life is the true successful life.
  • People often correlate success with making a lot of money, getting rich, career success. And that is understandable.
  • What If someone has a lot of money and not in the pink of health, unfulfilled relationship, can we consider this as a true success.
  • True success comes from a sense of satisfaction that you are in control of all the key areas of your life.
  • Balancing our life is not a one-time process. It is an ongoing process.
  • You may not take complete control of your life. certainly, you can make good enough.

Key areas of our life

Key areas of our life include:

1. Physical and mental health

2. Family and relationships

3. Business and career

4. Spirituality and contribution to the society

5. Financial

6. Fun and recreation

7. Personal achievement/learning

Grade yourself:

  • Now, I would like you to grade yourself in the above areas of your life on a scale of 1-10.
  • Write down your scores and be honest with yourself in the process.

Pay attention to your scores:

  • See the areas where you have overscored and underscored.
  • If your score is between 8-10, you are doing excellent.
  • A score between 5-8, shows you are doing good.
  • A score below 5, shows the area needs some real attention.

Improve your scores

  • Once you identified the areas that needs more attention, find out what exactly holds you back and find a way to overcome it.
  • In the same way, work on every other areas to keep the scores excellent.

It’s an ongoing process

  • Balancing our life is an ongoing process and it never stops.
  • Our job is to keep track of all the key areas of our lives and to fulfill the day-to-day needs and wants.
  • Thereby we can maintain a well-balanced life.

Everything in life…has to have balance.

Take control of your life

“From tonight onwards, take complete control of your life. Decide, once and for all, to be the master of your fate. Run your own race. Discover your calling and you will start to experience the ecstasy of an inspired life.”

~ Robin Sharma

Our happiness in our life is directly linked to the amount of control we have over our life. We feel happy, excited when we are in control of our life.

We either feel stressed out or unhappy when we are not in control of our life.

our job is to take control of our life by accepting complete responsibility, by doing the necessary things to bring our life in balance.

We could take control of our life in 4 ways

1. start doing something new

  • One of the way we could take control of our lives is by start doing something new which could benefit us.
  • It may be something as simple as waking up early in the morning, reading books, doing exercise or yoga, start investing money, learning a new skill, and something life-changing like starting a new business or changing your carrier.
  • List any 5 new activities which would you like to start doing this week/month/year?

2. Start doing something more of

  • Start doing more of what you are already doing that is beneficial to you.
  • We all have many habits and activities that we do every day which are making our lives easier and reaping rewards.
  • Our job now is to find out the things we are already doing that benefit us and start doing more of it.
  • It could be something like increasing the time of exercise we do every day, spending more time on our projects.

List any five activities that you do every day that benefit you the most? And start doing more of it.

3. Start doing less of

  • Every day we indulge in certain activities that make less or no significant changes in our lives.
  • These activities including watching long hours of Television, too much intake of unhealthy foods, spending too much time unproductively.
  • These are all some of the activities which we could consider start doing less of.

List any 5 activities that you could consider start doing less of every day?

4. Stop and replace it

  • These are all activities that are no longer beneficial to you in the short term as well as in the long term.
  • The best thing you could do is to consider abandoning or replacing it with something that could benefit you in the short term and long term.

List any 5 activities in your routine that you could consider stopping doing? And consider replacing it with any other productive activities or habits.

“Control your thoughts. Decide about that which you will think and concentrate upon. You are in charge of your life to the degree you take charge of your thoughts.”

“We always have a choice”

“Happiness is not by chance; but by choice.”

Jim rohn
  • At every moment of our life, we always have a choice.
  • There is nothing we should do, we are free to choose whatever we want.
  • As Louise hay author of the book “you can heal your life” says “should” is one of the most damaging words and every time we say we should do something, We are wrong.
  • The word “should” frightens us and puts more pressure on us.

We could replace “should” with “could”

  • As I mentioned earlier we always have a choice, why don’t we choose “could” over “should”.
  • Because “could” gives us more freedom.
  • How do the following lines sound: ” I should buy a new car by December 2021″ or ” I could buy a new car by December 2021.
  • Which of the above statement sounds more convincing.
  • When we use “could” over “should” we are ultimately giving ourselves more freedom and thereby we increase our chance of hitting our goals with “ease and peace”.

“we are here to have peace, harmony and prosperity and let’s have it.”

“Be miserable or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it is always your choice.”

Wayne Dyer

What is your self concept?

“A person’s self concept is the core of his personality.”

Joyce brothers

  • We all have a self concept about who we are and how we do things.
  • Many of us may not be aware of our self concept and some of us may be aware of it.
  • Our self determines our results in our life.
  • We all have a self concept about how we should dress, how we should speak , how we should work, with whom we should associate, what kind of person we are, what kind of father, mother, son, daughter we are and also on what food we should eat and not to eat etc.,

Change for the better

  • To lead a successful life, we must be aware of our self concept.
  • We must aim for a greater self concept to become a better person as possessed by some of the great people.
  • We must be willing to make changes in our self concept in order to get better results in our life.
  • Changing our self concept requires change in our attitude.
